Album Reviews: Dave WikeDave Wike's 2000 solo guitar work provides the listener with an unspoken uplifting attitude of hope. This is a great album to accompany meditation and prayer. Wike's fingerstyle playing, while not particularly Celtic, is fluid and practically flawless. The lack of other instruments and its flowing style make this an album new age acoustic guitar fans will enjoy. (The term "new age" is used strictly in the stylistic sense here.) A high point of the album is "Silver Wings". Though it retains the mellowness of the rest of the album, Wike's speedy plucking provides a bluegrassy feel that sets it apart. All the songs on Waiting have pretty much the same feel to them, with only one song in a minor key. If you're looking for talented mellow fingerstyle playing, buy this CD. If you're looking for variety, buy this CD and a couple of others as well. Waiting can be found at Dave Wike's web site. --Cory Engel, CelticChristianTunes.com |
